Halloween aftermath
Trick-or-Treat! I love Halloween. Other than Christmas, it is one of my favorite holidays. My family enjoys dressing up and decorating our place beyond recognition. Our favorite part is trick-or-treating. Of course we do it for our daughter, but my husband and I get a big kick out saying “trick-or-treat” as we go from house to house. You’re never too old!
The biggest problem for me is all the candy we bring back from our festive evening. Trying to live a healthier life does not include buckets of candy staring you in the face. And what do you tell a seven year old who is elated that she has collected 190 pieces of candy? A couple years ago, my husband and I came up with a compromise. We allow our daughter to eat candy for three days (within reason of course) and then we get rid of it. Our purpose is to teach her that it’s okay to enjoy a little, but not to overindulge. We want to take care of our teeth and bodies.
Now I know some of you are saying, “Oh she’s just a kid, let her enjoy!” But it works for us and she’s fine with it. Honestly, I can’t wait for the candy to leave tomorrow. I still have what I like to call the “sugar demon” in me, and it’s not a good thing to be surrounded by candy. Does anyone know how to perform an exorcism?
